Questions for a
daughter or son who has experienced annulment in the
family
For Young Adults or Children Impacted by
Annulment: If your parents
went through an annulment experience and you wish to respond to a
questionnaire, we would appreciate hearing from you
.
As you may know, the daughter or son of an
'annulled marriage' is being told by the Catholic Church hierarchy
that their parents' marriage was not what they grew up to believe
it was. Via an annulment mandate, the children of annulled
marriages are told that the Catholic Church hierarchy has decided
that God's sacrament and grace was not in the marriage ceremony.
This means that one's parents' marriage was never a sanctified
union, i.e. God's sacramental grace was not present in that
marriage. The hierarchy's mandate indicates that children of this
kind of marriage were not in a spiritually graced family. SOS/
RoA&RS believes that while all individuals in marriages make
mistakes this does not mean that GOD was not present in that
marriage in a sacramental or graced way.
SOS believes that it would make a great deal of
difference in the Vatican's attitude toward amending the present
annulment process if Catholic publications, such as the Jesuit
monthly magazine America, or Commonweal, published
articles based on the questions below. Perhaps later, the articles
could become a chapter in a book SOS members and their children
will write on other issues of annulment.
We are asking you, as a daughter or son who has
experienced annulment in your family, to tell us about your
insights and experiences regarding the impact and the consequences
in your life both emotionally and religiously. Please respond to
the following questions and email or mail this to SOS/ RoA&RS
at either of the addresses below:
Your thoughts about-
1) Your relationship with each parent prior to
the annulment and after the annulment
2) The impact you observed on the
Respondent-parent after the annulment was mandated by the Catholic
Tribunal, as contrasted with your observations of that parent
prior to the annulment
3) What you observed in the Petitioner-parent
prior to and after the annulment
4) Marriage now and in the future; have your
feelings about marriage changed from what they were before the
annulment?
5) Have your feelings about the Catholic Church
changed from what they were before the annulment?
6) Anything else you would like to
share.....
In the service of sparing other children and
young adults the emotionally devastating effects of annulment,
SOS/ RoA&RS deeply appreciates your help with these questions.
We are looking forward to hearing your response. Blessings on
you from SOS/RoA&RS.
